Pedro A. Sanchez

Pedro A. Sanchez (* 1940 in Cuba ) is a Cuban-American soil scientist . He is the director of the Tropical Agriculture and Rural Environment Program and director of the Millennium Villages Project at Columbia University . He is also Professor Emeritus of Soil Science and Forest Science at North Carolina State University and was Director of the World Agroforestry Center from 1991 to 2001 .

Sanchez is the 2002 World Food Prize winner and a MacArthur Fellow in 2003 . In 2008 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 2012 to the National Academy of Sciences .

His book Properties and Management of Soils of the Tropics is among the top 10 best-selling soil science books in the world.
