Pedro Barbosa [ ˈpedɾu bɐɾˈbɔzɐ ] (born  August 6, 1970 in Gondomar , Portugal ), with full name Pedro Alexandre dos Santos Barbosa , is a former Portuguese national soccer player .

Life

Barbosa began his professional career at Vitória Guimarães . In 1995 he moved to Sporting Lisbon . He stayed with the club for ten years and won two championships and a national cup. In 2005 he was also with the club in the final of the UEFA Cup against CSKA Moscow , but the game was lost 3-1. After the season he ended his active career.

Barbosa was the Portuguese international between 1992 and 2002 . He scored five goals in 22 international matches. He participated in the European Championship in 1996 and the World Championship in 2002 .

After working as an expert at the Portuguese broadcaster Sport TV after retiring , he has been sporting director at Sporting since July 2006.
