Pedro López de Aguirrebengoa

Pedro López de Aguirrebengoa (born February 11, 1936 ) is a former Spanish diplomat .

Life

Pedro López de Aguirrebengoa studied law and became a Bachelor of Laws in 1936 . From 1963 he was Secretary of the Legation in Nouakchott . From 1965 to 1970 he was employed at the consulates in Nador and Oujda . From 1971, he headed the Andean , Middle East, and North Africa departments in the Foreign Ministry . From 1973 he headed the Middle East department of the Africa Middle East subdivision. From 1977 he headed the Africa and Continental Asia Policy Department. On March 5th, 1982 he was appointed ambassador to Athens , where he was recalled on February 7th, 1986 and by decree of the same day appointed the first Spanish ambassador to Tel Aviv .

By decree of October 23, 1992, he was recalled from Tel Aviv and appointed ambassador to the Holy See. On December 7, 1996, he was recalled by the Holy See. From August 1997 he was employed in a commission headed by Enrique Múgica. On November 11, 2000, he was appointed ambassador to Cairo , where he was retired on February 10, 2006 before he reached the age of 70 .
