Pedro Mario Álvarez Abrante , Mario for short (born February 2, 1982 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife ) is a Spanish football player .

Player career

His career as a professional player started Mario Álvarez in the 2000/01 season at Atletico Madrid B in Segunda División B . There he was able to recommend himself for a commitment at the first division club Real Valladolid , in which he was used in half of the games in the following two seasons. Eventually the top Catalan club FC Barcelona became interested in his services and in 2003 the change followed. At the end of his first season with the Catalans, there were only two appearances for Mario - he was allowed to play for his new team in the league and once in the Champions League . In the summer of 2004 he returned to his ex-club Real Valladolid, which had meanwhile been relegated to the Segunda División . After two seasons as a regular at Valladolid, Mario returned to the Primera División, where he signed on with Getafe FC . In 2007 he was able to reach the final of the Copa del Rey and thus participation in the UEFA Cup with his team .
