Pedro Miguel Salgadinho Pacheco Melo (born June 27, 1984 in Ponta Delgada , Azores ) is a Canadian football player. Since 2010 he has been playing for the Portuguese club CD Santa Clara .
The Portuguese-born defensive midfielder has Canadian ancestors and spent his youth in the North American country.
Club career
Pedro Pacheco comes from Ponta Delgada on the Azores island of São Miguel . He began his career as a footballer at the regional club Vitória Clube do Pico da Pedra. In 2003 he moved to the Portuguese second division for CD Santa Clara , but was only used there twice during the 2003/2004 season.
In the following three years he played for the two clubs SC Lusitânia and CD Operário in the Portuguese third division. Then switched back to Santa Clara. There he became part of the club's regular team.
Pacheco left the Azores in 2009 and switched to CD Nacional . However, he was unable to assert himself there and returned to Santa Clara a year later.
National team
Due to his origin, Pacheco is eligible to play for the Canadian national soccer team. On May 14, 2010 he was appointed to the national team for the two friendlies against Argentina and Venezuela. He made his international debut against Argentina.
