The Pelliopsida are a class of liverworts . It includes only 2 orders with about 6 to 8 species.
features
Mosses of the class Pelliopsida are stemless and thallose (order Pelliales ) or leafy (order Noterocladales ) plants. Antheridia are sunk on top of the thallus . The spherical spore capsules open with four (six) flaps. Spores are multicellular.
Systematics
According to the system of Frey et al. the class comprises two orders:
- Noterocladales , 1–2 species found in America and on islands in the South Atlantic
- Pelliales , 5–6 species, common in the Holarctic
