Penascais is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northern Portugal .
Penascais is part of the Vila Verde county in the Braga district . The community had an area of 2.4 km² and 259 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Penascais, Valões , Codeceda , Atães and Covas were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias do Vade .
