The Penca Hill (in Chile Cerro Penca ) is a 217 m high hill on the Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It looms near the base of the Ray Promontory on the Byers Peninsula .
Scientists of the 25th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1970–1971) made the name. The naming background is unclear. In Spanish, the term penca stands for the stem axis of plants, but can also be translated as "fleshy leaf", " artichoke " and " milk thistle ". The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred the name in 1978 in a partial translation into English.
