The Ray Promontory is an elevated peninsula on Livingston Island in the South Shetland archipelago . It forms the northwestern branch of the Byers Peninsula , ends in the northwest with the Start Point and in the northeast at Essex Point . Penca Hill rises near its base .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1977 after Nathaniel Ray (1771-1830), captain of the schooner Harmony from Nantucket, who hunted seals in Harmony Cove on Nelson Island between 1820 and 1821.
