Peniocereus marianus is a species of plant in the genus Peniocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Peniocereus marianus grows as a shrub with branched, climbing shoots and reaches heights of 1 to 6 meters. The base is lignified and not thorny. The slim, cylindrical, gray-green shoots are 3 to 6 centimeters in diameter. There are four to five ribs . The single, dark brown central spine is directed downwards and 5 to 7 millimeters long. The seven to ten spread radial spines are also dark brown and lie on the shoot surface.
The tubular to funnel-shaped, white flowers open at night. They are 8 to 9 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with gray-brown wool and some bristle-like thorns. The obverse pear-shaped fruits are red.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Peniocereus marianus is distributed in the Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa at altitudes from 0 to 500 m. The first description as Wilcoxia mariana was in 1942 by Howard Scott Gentry . Gentry named the species after his wife Marie Ann. Hernándo Sánchez-Mejorada placed the species in the genus Peniocereus in 1962 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
