The Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) is a federal agency owned by the United States Department of Defense . The executive body of the PFPA is the Pentagon Police Directorate (PPD). The motto is “ Protecting those Who Protect the Nation ”.
History, organization and tasks
The main task of the PFPA, which was founded on May 3, 2002, is to protect the Pentagon near Washington, DC After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , which also affected the Pentagon, it was separated from the Defense Protective Service (DPS). The agency was also given responsibility for protecting the National Capitol Region (NCR). Before 1971, the General Services Administration was responsible for protecting the Pentagon.
The legal basis is Title 10 Section 2674 of the United States Code . Those who are organizationally part of the armed forces are trained at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia .
The Pentagon Access Control Division (PACD) is responsible for access control.
Departments with special tasks are:
- Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) - NBC protection ,
- Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Directorate (ATFP),
- Criminal Investigative & Protective Directorate (CIPD),
- Force Protection Technology Directorate (FPTD), PFPA Command Center (PCC) - control center ,
- Program Integration Directorate (PI),
- Pentagon Police Directorate (PPD),
- Security Services Directorate (SSD),
- Training Directorate (TD) and that
- Threat Management Directorate (TMD).
The Pentagon Police Directorate has a special task force ( SWAT ) with the Emergency Response Team .
