Pepe Mujica - The President is a German documentary film by Heidi Specogna about José Mujica , Uruguay's president who ruled from 2010 to 2015 .

content

The film describes four fields of action of the protagonist:

  1. The private life
  2. The job in Montevideo as President
  3. His public speeches
  4. Trips abroad

In addition to these current recordings, the film also contains archive recordings. They are shown in interviews given by Pepe Mujica. Most of them are black-and-white shots related to a military coup in 1973 and shots of his wife's small farm, which were probably made during the shooting of the 1997 film Tupamaros - José Mújica .

background

The film documents the person Pepe Mujica , who is extraordinary in several ways. He has social significance because he was a state president.

He has a talent for rhetoric. He renounces luxury and status symbols and donated a large part of his pension and did not use it privately. In interviews he explains his understanding of a socialism that had a certain popularity in the 1970s and relates this understanding to his current tasks in the legislature ( legalizing the cultivation of cannabis ) and the executive branch.

The concept of authenticity is brought into focus both by the protagonist and by the film.
