Life

Per-Martin Hamberg was born in Västernorrland , but came to Stugun in Jämtland in 1915 at the age of 3 , where his father became a pastor.

Hamberg graduated from Östersund's high school in 1932 . He performed his own tunes in local city revues while he was still in high school. He then moved to Stockholm , where he took the exam in philosophy at Stockholm University in 1939 . During his high school in Östersund he had already come into contact with Karin Juel (musician), and through her he was able to publish a number of melodies, including a. Stora Skrällen (the big bang - text: Stig Järrel) and a ballad about the fiddler of the French king (text: Fraan G. Bengtsson). Karin Juel also often used Hamberg as her piano accompaniment. In his well-known melody "Nu tänds åter ljuse i min lilla stad" (Now the light is being lit again in my little town) under the pseudonym Erik Decker (family name of his mother), Hamberg described his longing for his old hometown Östersund during his 1st Year in Stockholm.

Per-Martin Hamberg was employed by AB Radiotjänst in 1945. Two years later he became head of the entertainment department and reorganized radio entertainment. The program that was further developed thanks to Hamberg included: a. the broadcasts Föreningen för Flugighetens främjande (FFFF) with u. a. Povel Ramel, Frukostklubben with Sigge Fürst, carousels with Lennart Hyland, and the long-running Tjugo frågor (quiz) with himself as program director and Astrid Lindgren, Stig Järrel and Kjell Stensson as contributors.

In addition to his job at the radio, he has directed Knäppupp's revues since the first episode "Akta Huvet" in Gothenburg in 1952.

Hamberg took an early interest in the medium of TV and was program director at Sveriges Television from 1955 to 1962, where he started the programs Kvitt eller and Stora famnen. He also transferred the popular radio program Hylands Hörna to TV.

During his final years at TV, he worked in the news department and as head of news.

Per-Martin Hamberg had many “strings on his lyre” and shortly before his death he published his first novel Kärleks ljuva plåga (the sweet plague of love), a novel about Magdalena Rudensköld.

In 1962 he gave Jamtamot in Uppsala (Academic Association and Local History Association) the valuable copy of fishing scissors that had been made at the end of the 18th century to catch the (Storsjöodjuret) "Big Sea Monster". This was then exchanged during the Storsjöyran 1965 (city festival and music festival). Therefore, the original is now in Jamtamot's Kammarn club in Norrlands Nation in Uppsala and the copy is on display in the Jamtli Museum in Öresund.

Hamberg's nephew Lars Hamberg, at the time the most famous radio voice at Sveriges Radio in Malmö, was the one who founded the Phontrattarne student orchestra / show orchestra in Uppsala in 1956.

Per-Martin Hamberg was married to Anna Maria Elisabeth Hamberg (1911–2000).
