Per Olof Sundman

Per Olof Sundman (born September 4, 1922 in Vaxholm , †  October 9, 1992 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish writer and politician .

Life

Per Olof Sundman attended a grammar school in Stockholm. In his youth he was active in the Nazi organization Nordisk Ungdom . He was a soldier and worked in various professions, from 1949 to 1963 he was a hotel manager in northern Sweden. He worked as a local politician. As a member of the Centerpartiet , he was a member of the Reichstag from 1969 to 1980 . From 1975 he was a member of the Swedish Academy .

In his novels he deals with human behavior in borderline situations, he often describes loners in northern European living space. He used a factual, reportage-like style of writing. His novel Ingenieur Andrées Luftfahrt was filmed by Jan Troell in 1982 (German distribution title: Der Flug des Adler ).

Peter Keckeis from the Benziger publishing house paved the way for German-speaking readers for Per Olof Sundman and other Scandinavian authors such as Eyvind Johnson and Dea Trier Mørch .
