Per Tofte (born January 24, 1935 in Sør-Fron ) is a Norwegian actor .

Life

Tofte completed a degree in philosophy with a French major. He later trained as an actor at Trøndelag Teater Elevskole and made his debut in 1962 as a student at Trøndelag Teater in Trondheim . He then worked as an actor at this theater from 1965 to 1967. After that he had further engagements at various theaters such as in Stavanger and in Oslo at the Nationaltheatret , Oslo Nye Teater , Det Norske Teatret and at Riksteatret .

During his appearances at the theater, he had a broad repertoire as a character actor and took part in many stage plays at various companies in mostly important roles. He was one of the initiators of the annual Peer Gynt Festival ( Peer Gynt-stemnet ), a ten day long Norwegian theater and culture festival in Gålåvatnet . The highlight of the festival is an annual outdoor performance of Henrik Ibsen's drama Peer Gynt, in which Tofte always played the leading role from 1989 to 1995. This performance went on tour in Norway and also in France with Per Tofte as the main actor.

From 2000 to 2001 Tofte had his own cabaret show under the title: Peer, du lyver (Peer, you liar) which was broadcast on Norwegian television NRK . Tofte he was also involved in over 100 performances at the Théâtre Marigny in Paris . He had important roles and appearances at the theater in performances of The Lady of the Camellias , as bailiff Stockmann in Ein Volksfeind , Alter Ekdal in Die Wildente von Ibsen, as Louis XIII. in The Three Musketeers , Father in Ballerina , with Anton Pawlowitsch Chekhov in Chekhov-Chekhova , Orlando in As You Like It .

Tofte has also starred in a number of Norwegian films and television productions since the late 1960s. He had leading roles in Himmel og helvete , Lukket avdeling and in the feature film 3 and also in the more recent films God natt da, elskede , 2008 and Jag etter vind , 2013. He also had several appearances in the Norwegian soap opera Hotel Cæsar and worked he also starred in two films by the Norwegian Olsen Gang .
