Peregrin Obdržálek ( peregrin obdr̩ʒaːlek ) (born May 9, 1825 in Austerlitz , Moravia ; † May 29, 1891 in Břest bei Kremsier , Moravia) was a Czech Catholic priest and author of religious literature, satire, humorous stories and verses.

Life

Obdržálek learned philosophy in Uherská Skalice and Strassnitz and then studied theology in Brno . After he was ordained a priest in 1850, he worked as a chaplain in Dražovice , Topolany , Brankovice , Pustiměř and in Oppolz near Frankstadt under Radhoscht , and finally he became a pastor in Blanz . During his service in Břest he was appointed consistorial councilor.

During his work he founded school libraries in many places, collected members for various Catholic associations, founded business associations and loan funds and contributed verse and prose to political and entertaining and instructive magazines. Above all, he stood out as a humorous satirist: his treatises Maloměstské dívek vychování (Small-town upbringing of girls), Nedělní zábava maloměšťáků (Sunday entertainment of petty bourgeoisie), Osudná stovka či námluvy na venkově in the country and many others appeared in the bridal showers in the country Calendar Moravan (Moravian). He published sermons, songs and sages in the magazine Posvátná kazatelna (Holy Pulpit). He also edited Cvičení maličkých ve svatém náboženství křesťansko-katolickém (Exercise Piece for Little One in the Christian Catholic Religion), a thin book for children that summarizes in verse the biblical story and the basics of the catechism . In his works he also used the code name Pelhřim Obdržálek ( pelhřim obdr̩ʒaːlek ).
