Periointegration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Periointegration refers to the irritation-free and inflammation-free embedding of an endosseous dental implant in the surrounding oral mucosa . The goal is a permanent hard and Weichgewebsstabilität around the implant for the prevention of peri . In contrast to osseointegration, periointegration does not only take into account bony and microbiological factors of the implant restoration. Periointegration deals with the peri-implant mucosa, i.e. the subepithelial connective tissue and the epithelium . Periointegration aims to achieve long-term bacterial sealing of the natural gum line to protect the underlying tissue (connective tissue and bones) from infection and to prevent peri-implantitis. The aim is to maintain the health of the hard and soft tissue structures that surround the implant without inflammation.

activities

In order to achieve long-term stable adhesion of the soft tissue cuff to the implant shoulder or abutment , among other things, a long-term reduced plaque accumulation and biofilm formation on the implant and suprastructures are necessary. Periointegration consists of three components: As a preventive measure, tissue-friendly materials should be used during implantation, diagnostically the early detection of peri-implantitis through tests is the focus, and therapeutically, medical interventions should be made in the event of peri-implant mucositis .

history

Periointegration is still a young focus in dental implantology. The increase in peri-implant inflammation on endosseous implants gave rise to the establishment of periointegration. As a result, implantology recognized the need to look beyond osseointegration to maintain the health of the entire peri-implant hard and soft tissue. Since its foundation in Berlin in December 2006, the international Academy of Periointegration has focused on the permanent periointegration of dental implants in their surrounding tissue. Periointegration has now established itself as a topic at dental congresses and training courses.
