The Pernerstorferhof is an urban residential complex in the 10th Viennese district of Favoriten . It is located at Troststrasse 68-70 and was named after Engelbert Pernerstorfer , one of the founders of Austrian social democracy.

Building description

The residential complex was built between 1924 and 1926 by the architects Camillo Fritz Discher and Paul Gütl on Troststrasse, which was largely unobstructed until then, at the same time as two other residential blocks at the end of tram line 66. This is a typical form of a so-called residential palace, as it was often used in the interwar years as part of the residential building program of the Red Vienna . Existing houses on Herzgasse were included in the project.

The Pernerstorferhof is located between Troststrasse in the south, Neilreichgasse in the west, Hardtmuthgasse in the north and Herzgasse in the east. It is designed around an inner courtyard as a block edge construction and comprises 431 apartments on 26 stairs. The inner courtyard is divided into three garden courtyards by a T-shaped inner wing, which are connected to one another by covered passageways.

The mighty, six-story facade is richly structured with oriel projections, loggias, balconies and gable structures. The middle part on Troststrasse is set back a little. Here is a monumental entrance with a gable and arched portal. In contrast, the rear facade on Hardtmuthgasse is much simpler. Interesting building details such as varying window shapes add value to the building as a whole.

Fountain figure Refuge by Joseph Josephu

In the inner courtyard there is a recessed children's playground with a fountain figure Refuge by Joseph Josephu , which shows a mother with two children.

In 1953, the complex was expanded to include 30 apartments. At that time, a sgraffito with the depiction of brickworkers by Heribert Potuznik was also placed over the entrance .
