Camillo Fritz Discher

Camillo Fritz Discher (born October 11, 1884 in Vienna ; † February 25, 1976 in Purkersdorf , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian architect.

Life

Discher was the son of a building contractor. He attended the State Trade School in Vienna from 1899 to 1903 and then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Otto Wagner from 1904 to 1907. In 1906 he received the Golden Füger Medal . After completing his studies, Discher worked in several architectural offices, including in Germany from 1909 to 1913. In 1914 he received the master builder license.

In the twenties Discher created his main works, several large residential complexes for the municipality of Vienna, in collaboration with several other Otto Wagner students. Even after the Second World War , he was again entrusted with the planning of some municipal buildings in Vienna. He died of old age in Purkersdorf.

In his community housing, Camillo Fritz Discher combined expressive with painterly and local style features. He liked to use arbors and corner balconies, polygonal bay windows and hipped roofs. He made a significant contribution to the so-called “Viennese community building style ” of the twenties, which tried to combine modern construction with traditional Austrian forms.
