Engelbert Pernerstorfer

Engelbert Pernerstorfer (born April 27, 1850 in Vienna ; † January 6, 1918 there ) was an Austrian politician and journalist .

Life

Engelbert Pernerstorfer, who had graduated from the Vienna Schottengymnasium , worked as a teacher. He belonged to the German national circle around Georg von Schönerer ; The German School Association was founded on his initiative in 1880 . During his studies in 1870 he became a member of the Braune Arminia Vienna fraternity . From 1881 he was co-publisher and from 1883 sole editor and editor of the newspaper “German Words”. In 1882 he was involved in creating the German national Linz program .

From 1885 to 1897 and from 1901 to 1918 he was a member of the Reichsrat , from 1896 a member of the Social Democratic German Workers' Party . (Before that he belonged to the Fabier group, from which the Social Political Party was to emerge in 1896. ) Alongside Victor Adler , Pernerstorfer was one of the party leaders of the Social Democrats; he represented the German national direction of the workers' movement. From 1907 he was Vice President of the House of Representatives of the Reichsrat.

In 1919 Pernerstorfergasse in Vienna- Favoriten , the 10th district, was named after him. The Pernerstorferhof , a municipal residential complex in the same district, also got his name.

In the early 1920s, Pernerstorfer's private library was acquired by the Social Science Study Library of the Chamber for Workers and Employees for Vienna .
