Perrysville is a town in Ashland County , Ohio , United States . According to the statistics of the 2010 census, the place had 735 inhabitants.

geography

The place is on the Black Fork Mohican River , southwest of the place flows the Mohican River . Perrysville is the heart of the Mohican Country, named after the Indian tribe of the Mohicans, described by James Fenimore Cooper in his stories . The name of the tribe is partly fictitious and arose from the contraction of the names of the Mahican and Mohegan , who were formerly at home in the New England states , but it characterizes the retreats of the North American natives in central Ohio.

history

On June 10, 1815, Thomas Coulter submitted plans to establish a community. So Perrysville was the first village to be established in Ashland County. But the population grew slowly, in 1830 there were only 9 inhabitants. In 1860 the population had grown to 1,835.

The place is named after the naval officer Oliver Hazard Perry , who became famous during the battle on Lake Erie in 1812 in the war against the British .
