Persistence in Mourning is a drone and funeral doom band founded in 2006 .

history

Andy Lippoldt has been active in Mourning since 2006 under the band name Persistence. The band is considered a solo project. However, Lippoldt relies on the support of various guest musicians. Since 2007 several releases of the project appeared in one year up to 2013. Including a large number of split releases , especially with popular performers of the broad spectrum of extreme Doom Metal such as Worship , Rigor Sardonicous and Gnaw Their Tongues . Split releases, albums, singles and EPs appeared on independent labels such as At War with False Noise , Land of Decay , Universal Tongue , Witch Sermon Production and Ars Funebris . After 2013, there were no further publications under the band name. Aaron Stainthorpe from My Dying Bride contributed a number of times as a cover artist . The international reception was consistently positive. Webzines like Doom-Metal.com , Echoes and Dust and Invisible Orange devoted reviews to various publications. Persistence in Mourning was praised as grim and gloomy, enjoyable and original, strange and unsettling as well as a “harrowing musical experience”.

style

According to the webzine Doom-Metal.com , the music of Persistence in Mourning is "a slow, crushing, unfriendly and hateful funeral doom ". Reference is made to Esoteric for a classifying comparison . In reviews, other Funeral Doom representatives such as Wormphlegm , Wraith of the Ropes and Skepticism are used as comparables. Regardless of the Funeral Doom, influences from Industrial and Drone Doom are identified. Elsewhere, a development of the band is identified. Later releases can no longer be assigned to Funeral Doom. The band developed from a funeral doom, with a particularly present bass and heavy riffing, to a drone doom.

"Where there once were heavy riffs and deep, gurgling vocals are now harsh drones and distorted, maniacal, tortured howls. The once pounding drum machine is all but non-existent, aside from brief stints in "Doomsday from the Pulpit" and "Defector Part I (Outside Looking In)." To classify this terrifying, screeching, near early industrial album as metal would be arbitrary. "

“Where there used to be heavy riffs and deep gurgling vocals , there are now hard drones and distorted, manically tortured yelp. The once pounding drum machine is as good as nonexistent, apart from brief appearances in Doomsday from the Pulpit and Defector Part I (Outside Looking In) . To classify this terrifying, screeching album as metal, almost corresponding to the early industrial, would be arbitrary. "
