Rigor Sardonicous (of lat . Rigor , Rigid 'and sardonicus , sardonic ') is an American Funeral Doom band from Long Iceland , New York , which was founded in 1988.

history

The band was formed in 1988 by singer and guitarist Joseph J. Fogarazzo and bassist Glenn Hampton. In 1999 the debut album Apocalypsis Damnare was released , followed by a split release in 2002, followed by the second album Apocalypsis Damnare in 2004 . In 2005 the debut album was re-recorded and released. Something similar happened in 2006 when the debut demo Risus ex Mortuus was re-recorded and released on the Russian label Endless Desperation Records . In 2008 and 2012 the next two studio albums followed with Vallis ex Umbra de Mortuus and Ego Diligio Vos . In 2012 the live album Vivescere Exitium was also released on compact cassette with an edition of 200 copies. The recordings for this came from a New York concert on August 14, 2009. The concert had also been available as a free download since 2009 .

style

According to Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia , the band plays dark funeral doom. The band was influenced by groups like Winter , Disembowelment and Khanate . The drumming is extremely slow and is taken over by a drum computer . In his review of the newly recorded version of Apocalypsis Damnare , Ignacio Coluccio wrote to maelstromzine.com that you can now hear a better division between vocals and electric guitar. The band play a Goregrind version of Funeral Doom, with down-tuned guitars, drum computers and pitch shifted vocals. In contrast to the Goregrind, however, the songs only move between 40 and 60 bpm . The songs sounded heavily influenced by bands like Thergothon and Disembowelment. If you were into technically demanding or majestic-sounding Doom Metal , you would find the music terrible and untalented. Neil Pretorius from metal-observer.com called the music on Ego Diligio Vos classic Funeral Doom and used bands like Skepticism and Thergothon as comparisons. The electric guitar and the drums are extremely sluggish and the growling is frightening and almost impossible to understand. In songs like Hilarus Sperablis , however, in places you almost have the feeling of hearing a song by God Is an Astronaut . The song fluctuates between beautiful and oppressive atmospheres. Pretorius used a comparison to Beauty and the Beast . In addition, the album is peppered with repetitions.
