Perumbavoor ( Malayalam പെരുമ്പാവൂർ ) is a historic site on the banks of the Periyar (Poorna River) in the Ernakulam district in the Indian state of Kerala . Located on the northeastern tip of the greater Cochin area , it is also the headquarters of the Taluk Kunnathunad. Perumbavoor is known in the state for its timber and small-scale industries. Ernakulam is located 30 km southwest of Perumbavoor. The city is located between Angamaly and Muvattupuzha on the Main Central Road (MC), which connects Thiruvananthapuram to Angamaly via the old Travancore part of Kerala. Perumbavoor lies on the banks of the Periyar and Muvattupuzha rivers .

Perumbavoor has many immigrants from other parts of India including West Bengal , Orissa and Uttar Pradesh . Most work in the plywood industry or other industries. Tamils , Assamese and Nepalese each have their own housing estates.

The state government and the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) plan to build Angamaly , Perumbavoor, Piravom and Kolenchery in the Ernakulam district ; Mala and Kodungallur in Thrissur District ; Thalayolaparambu and Vaikom in Kottayam and Cherthala in the Alappuzha district within the metropolitan limits of Kochi . The newly formed metropolis would come under a new authority called the Kochi Metropolitan Regional Development Authority .
