Pest is a black metal band that was formed in Sweden in 1997.

Band history

In 1997 Pest was founded by the two musicians Necro and Equimanthorn. The first demo was released in 1998, a second followed in 1999 with an edition of 50 copies. Robban played the drums on the latter. Another demo came out that same year, this time with a session drummer named Hate.

The first professional release appeared in 2002, a mini album entitled Blasphemy Is My Throne , limited to 300 records and 500 MCDs. Again Hate took over the drums. Another demo followed in 2003, this time without outside help.

Desecration , the band's debut album , was released in 2003 and was released by No Colors Records . An LP version was released through Blood and Iron Productions. Two strictly limited EPs followed in 2004 . Dauðafærð is written in Old Swedish and only contains the twenty-minute track "Lífit es Dauðafærð". Some publications have an English language version on the B-side . The second, again heavily limited EP contains the band's demos and was released on the German record company Deviant Records. The second album In Total Contempt will be released in 2005, again via No Colors. In 2006 another single was released via Iron Fist Productions.

In 2008 the new album Rest in Morbid Darkness was released . In the meantime the band has changed distribution and is now under contract with Season of Mist .

Music style and ideology

The band plays classic Black Metal in the style of Gorgoroth and old Darkthrone , which (expressly emphasized by the band) is not supported by keyboards or female vocals. With the second album, thrash and heavy metal influences increasingly found their way into the music. The music is mostly straightforward and quite simple. The lyrics are often about satanism and misanthropy . The band rejects political statements and distances itself from the so-called NSBM scene. Corresponding suspicions came about because of the record company No Colors Records, which released their first two albums. The band commented on the allegations:

"No Colors is an ok label with bad reputation I think, at least that is what I've heard. It's an old label, and for persons like me, who lives in the past sort of, it felt ok signing to them. "

- Necro in an interview with Voices from the Darkside

The band has not yet performed live. Contrary to previous statements, however, she no longer categorically rejects this. The band is currently looking for session members to support them with any live activities. In addition, she distances herself from the MySpace appearances, which were probably created by fans.
