Pete Jacobsen (born May 16, 1950 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne as Peter Paul George Jacobsen, † April 29, 2002 in London ) was a British jazz pianist .

Live and act

Jacobsen, who went blind as a baby, taught himself the basics of harmony as a child. In 1969 he completed his training as a classical concert pianist at the Royal Academy of Music . He then played fusion jazz with Barbara Thompson and Gary Boyle to move to Morrissey - Mullen . He then accompanied the Scottish saxophonist Bobby Wellins and was involved in his recordings Jubilation (1978), Dreams Are Free (1979) and Birds of Brazil (1989). During the 1980s and 1990s he was part of the bands of Chris Biscoe and Tim Whitehead .

He also worked with Don Weller , Alan Skidmore , Peter King and the Celtic jazz band Carmina , but also with traveling musicians such as Eberhard Weber and Jimmy Knepper ; he also played solo concerts. He mastered the spectrum from straight ahead jazz to free improvisation music and, according to the Jazz Rough Guide, was not appreciated to the extent that his sensitive and at the same time powerful playing deserved.
