Nic France (born March 30, 1956 in Standon , Hertfordshire ) is a British musician (drums, percussion, steel drum , piano) of modern and fusion jazz .

France began to play the piano at the age of seven and shortly afterwards to play the violin, and between 1964 and 1969 received a comprehensive musical education as a choirboy in Ely . At fourteen he turned to drums, which he learned as a self-taught . In 1976 he began studying music at Cambridge College of Arts and Technology ; During his studies he made the acquaintance of Chucho Merchan , with whom he also worked later. He also had the opportunity to accompany musicians such as Gordon Beck , Martin Taylor and Tony Coe .

In 1980 he moved to London, where he was a member of Ian Carrs Nucleus in 1982 ( Awakening , 1980). He also worked with Ronnie Scott , John Taylor , Allan Holdsworth , Jim Mullen and Bobby Wellins , but also with Mose Allison , L. Shankar , Hank Crawford , David Fathead Newman and Billy Cobham . In 1984 he was a founding member of Loose Tubes with Django Bates , John Parricelli , Chris Batchelor , Mark Lockheart and Iain Ballamy . In addition, he played from 1984 to 1986 at Working Week , with whom he played on several European tours and recorded three albums, and with Tim Whitehead . He continued to work with Bill Withers and for several years with Tanita Tikaram . Since the mid-1990s he has played with Annie Lennox , Antonio Forcione, Ian Shaw, Christie Hennessey, Pete Jacobsen and with Tim Garlands Lammas . In 2001/2 he went on tour with David Gilmour and guests Kate Bush , Bob Geldof and Robert Wyatt . He was also a guest musician in the NDR big band .

He is an instrumental teacher at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, and has led many workshops and summer schools.
