Pete Latzo

Pete Latzo (born August 1, 1902 in Colerain Township , Pennsylvania , USA ; † July 7, 1968 ) was an American boxer and welterweight champion from 1926 to 1927 .

Career

Latzo competed against the best welterweights of his time, including his compatriot and "Hall of Famer" Mickey Walker , against whom he won the world championship belt on May 20, 1926. In June 1927, Latzo lost this title to the Italian-born American Joe Dundee .

After this loss, he was never able to build on previous achievements and went to both middleweight and heavyweight until his career . He met well-known boxers such as Jim Braddock , Tommy Loughran and Tiger Flowers .

Latzo was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame .
