Peter (tomcat)
Peter (around 1929 ; † after 1946 ) was the second Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office and the first cat to officially receive this title.
As Chief Mouser
Peter served as a mouse hunter at No. Downing Street. 10 between 1929 and 1946 and under Prime Ministers Stanley Baldwin , Ramsay MacDonald , Neville Chamberlain , Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee . It was a penny a day to feed Peter.
Between 1937 and 1943 he received support from Munich Mouser , who was also a mouse hunter during Peter's time under Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill. Nelson also served as Chief Mouser under Churchill .
After he was retired in 1946, Peter II and later Peter III became his successor.
