Peter Abadie Sarpy
Peter Abadie Sarpy (* 1804 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † January 4 , 1865 in Plattsmouth , Nebraska ) was a fur trader and entrepreneur, also in the service of the Union , who contributed significantly to the development of the state of Nebraska. The Sarpy County in eastern Nebraska was named after him.
history
Sarpy originally came from the southern states , more precisely from New Orleans, Louisiana. His family had French roots. In 1823 he moved to Nebraska and established some settlements. He specialized in the mail trade and did his part in promoting urbanization in the Midwestern region . He married Ni-co-mi, a woman from the Omaha tribe, who was nicknamed the White Chief . He died on January 4, 1865 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
