Peter Andreas Blix

Peter Andreas Blix (born November 4, 1831 in Fredriksværn , † January 31, 1901 in Vik ) was a Norwegian architect . Blix was committed to the preservation and protection of the cultural heritage of Norway throughout his life.

Life

Blix studied at the Hanover Polytechnic (1851 to 1854) and at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic (1854 to 1855). Back in his home country he worked in the canal office from 1856 to 1863. There he was tasked with developing canals. Then he settled in Bergen as a freelance architect. He is considered a pioneer of the so-called Swiss architectural style for hotels and residential buildings. Among other things, he was the builder of the Hotel Mundal in Fjærland . He also built many train stations. In Bergen he mainly worked on the restoration of the Håkonshalle and St. Olav Cathedral . His late work was the restoration of Hopperstad Stave Church and Hove Church . He acquired the latter with private funds and financed their restoration with his own money. His grave is under the floor in Hove Church.
