The Lenkstein ( 3236 m above sea level , also called Großer Lenkstein ) is a summit in the Rieserferner Group and is located on the Austrian-Italian border between East and South Tyrol . It is located about 3.5 kilometers northeast of the Hochgall , the highest peak in the group. The border between the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park also runs over its summit .
Increase opportunities
The summit can be approached from the southeast from Defereggental in East Tyrol and from the west from South Tyrol. Both climbs are largely marked.
The ascent from the southeast leads first through the Patscher Valley to the Barmer Hut (2610 m). From the hut it is first descending northwards, further flat, partly over blockwork, until a steep, rocky upswing secured with wire ropes the ridge a little above the Roßhornscharte (2916 m) has to be climbed. Now over to the main ridge and briefly down to the Lenksteinjoch. You climb an upswing with reddish rock to the right, then back onto the ridge or over firn to the summit.
At the end of the Reintal , a side valley of the Tauferer Tal , the ascent starts from the west in the village of Rein (1595 m). The path leads through the original valley, then over the western flank and over the last part of the south ridge. The Kasseler Hütte (also Hochgallhütte, 2,276 m) can be used as a base, with the original valley being reached via the first part of the Arthur-Hartdegen-Weg.
