Peter Bicken
Peter Bücken (born March 16, 1830 in Burtscheid , † August 9, 1915 in Aachen ) was a German painter .
Life
Bücken studied with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Carl Friedrich Lessing at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and for a year with Eugène Joseph Verboeckhoven in Brussels . Bücken then worked for a long time in Munich , where he benefited significantly from his acquaintance with Eduard Schleich the Elder , Friedrich Voltz and Carl Spitzweg . Finally he moved back to Aachen, where he settled down as a landscape painter and founded his own painting school. He is considered an important representative of Rhenish landscape painting. His more than 200 known works are characterized by idyllic landscapes and other motifs from natural life. His wife, Clothilde Bücken, b. de Nocker, he portrayed in 1870.
After his death there was a memorial exhibition both in 1915 in what was then the Aachen Museum Association and in 1947 in the Suermondt Ludwig Museum . On March 16, 2020, his 190th birthday, a memorial plaque was unveiled at his birthplace in the Burtscheid district of Aachen.
