Peter Boye

Peter Boye (* in Nortorf (Wilstermarsch) ; † March 17, 1542 in Rostock ) was a German lawyer, theologian and university professor.

Life

Peter Boye enrolled in October 1498 with the reference "from Dithmarschen" to study at the University of Rostock . Boye received his doctorate as a canon lawyer and became a professor in Rostock. From 1508 he eight times held the office of the rector of the university, whose permanent syndic he also worked as a lawyer. Boye was appointed ducal councilor in 1516 and was an episcopal officer general in Rostock. As canon of the Schwerin Chapter, he was archdeacon in Waren (Müritz) and cathedral dean. Like the university as a whole, he was strongly opposed to the Reformation until 1531 . He died during his eighth term as rector of the university.
