Peter C. Schenk

Peter Cornelius Schenk (born November 25, 1928 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † June 22, 2020 ) was a German architect and university professor .

Life

Schenk completed a degree in architecture at the Technical University of Stuttgart . In 1955 he received the degree of graduate engineer with a job with Rolf Gutbrod . He was then a design teacher at the Kingston School of Art in England and an assistant professor at the University of Washington before becoming professor for spatial design at the University of Stuttgart in 1960 . He held the professorship until 1993. From 1988 to 1998 he was also President of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects , then Honorary President of the Chamber. As president, he played a key role in the realization of the House of Architects in Stuttgart.

St. Michael, Schwäbisch Gmünd

Schenk was known for his dictum “Machets, but machets schee!” (Do it, but make it beautiful!) And for his fondness for red accessories . The only church building he designed, the Catholic parish church of St. Michael in the western part of Schwäbisch Gmünd, has been a listed building since 2016 .

Schenk's grave is located in the St. Leonhard Cemetery in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
