Peter Fischer (journalist, 1939)

Peter Fischer (born October 15, 1939 ) is a German journalist. Among other things, he was editor-in-chief of the Frankfurter Neue Presse and the Münchner Merkur .

Peter Fischer initially worked as a patrol officer in Hamburg from 1957 to 1962 and during this time he graduated from high school. He then studied law in Hamburg.

In 1968 his journalistic career began with an internship at the Bild newspaper in Hamburg, where he became a local editor within 18 months. In 1971 he switched to the newly founded Aktuelle Woche , also in Hamburg, where he became deputy editor-in-chief after the merger with praline magazine . During that era he spent time as a war correspondent in Vietnam, Cyprus, and Lebanon.

In 1991 he returned to Bild, where he became editor-in-chief of the Frankfurt edition. In 1986 he moved to the editor-in-chief of the Frankfurter Neue Presse . In 1995 he swapped the chief editor's chair in Frankfurt for that of the Münchner Merkur , where he stayed until 2000. From 1998 to 1999 he was also editor-in-chief of the Merkur tabloid tz .

From 2000 to 2004 he worked as a correspondent for Merkur and other sheets of the publisher Dirk Ippen , such as the Hammer Westfälischer Anzeiger and the Oranienburger Generalanzeiger , in the federal capital Berlin . Since then he has worked as a freelance journalist and author.
