Peter Fröhlich (born July 11, 1901 in Cologne , † August 1, 1984 ) was a Cologne city ​​councilor and Cologne book author .

Career

Peter Fröhlich comes from a working- class family of ten from Cologne's Eigelstein district . In his youth, he earned his living as a newspaper seller, errand boy , construction laborers , rivets warmer and Maurer . At the age of 16 he joined the workers abstinence union , then he became a member of the building trade union and the socialist workers' youth . He joined the Communist Party at the age of 22 . In 1933 he was elected to the Cologne City Council as the last representative of the SPD before the National Socialists came to power , but was prevented from exercising his city council mandate by the National Socialists. In 1946 Peter Fröhlich and the later mayor Theo Burauen were the first SPD members to take on this position. He was a member of the culture committee there for over 20 years. He was a member of the city council until 1975.
