Peter Göhner

Peter Göhner (born April 1, 1950 in Stuttgart ) is a retired university professor. From 1997 to 2012 he was director at the Institute for Automation and Software Technology (IAS) of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Stuttgart .

Life

Göhner studied mathematics at the University of Stuttgart from 1971 to 1976 and graduated in November 1976 with the academic degree of diploma mathematician. At the same time he studied computer science from 1971 to 1977 and finished his computer science studies in October 1977 as a computer scientist. Between November 1976 and January 1980 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Control Engineering and Process Automation (IRP) under the direction of R. Lauber. In November 1981 Göhner did his doctorate in engineering at the Institute for Control Engineering and Process Automation with the dissertation topic "Engineering specification of the synchronization of parallel computing processes".

Between February 1980 and March 1994 he worked for the Gesellschaft für Prozessrechnerprogrammierung mbH in Munich and took over its management from November 1989. Between April 1994 and November 1995 he was the managing director of the company is (innovative software technologie GmbH) based in Taufkirchen (near Munich) .

In October 1995 Göhner was appointed full professor at the Institute for Automation and Software Technology at the University of Stuttgart. Since November 1996 he has been a member of the board of the Stuttgart Informatics Association (IVS). In the period from 1997 to 2001, he also held the position of deputy chairman of the VDE district association Württemberg eV (Association of Electrical, Electronics and Information Technology).

In September 1997, the IAS was the first institute of the University of Stuttgart to be certified for research and teaching according to the international standard DIN EN ISO 9000 .

From October 1998 to September 2000, Göhner was Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Stuttgart, succeeding Joachim Speidel . In September 2000 he was awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr. hc) by the Donetsk University of Technology , Ukraine, for his outstanding achievements in the scientific field . In October 2000 he was awarded the media didactic university prize MEDIDA-PRIX by the Gesellschaft für Medien und Wirtschaft eV for the project “Living what we teach”. In the period from October 2000 to November 2003, Göhner was Vice-Rector for Teaching and Further Education at the University of Stuttgart. In the two years 2001 and 2002 Göhner was reappointed as chairman of the VDE district association Württemberg eV. Between October 2003 and April 2007 he was also the acting head of the computer center at the University of Stuttgart (RUS).

Scientific work

During his early work at the Institute for Control Engineering and Process Automation, Göhner dealt with the specification of the synchronization of parallel computing processes for general real-time applications. As part of his research work as a university professor, he dealt with the component-based development of embedded systems, the integration of software specification techniques for engineering applications, and the use of hybrid component models for monitoring and diagnosing continuously discrete systems. His other research focuses include reliability methods for early development phases of programmable mechatronic systems based on qualitative models, flexible decentralized automation and control systems based on qualitative models and resource-saving software agents, as well as the proactive support of construction processes through software agent systems. In 2010, under his leadership, a wonderland of automation technology was built to mark the 75th anniversary of the IAS, to get young people excited about technology.
