Peter Gertner
Peter Gertner , also gardener (* around 1495/1500; † after 1541 in Nuremberg ) was a German painter.
Live and act
On January 12, 1521, Peter Gertner received citizenship in Nuremberg , where he presumably learned from the painter Wolf Traut . He became known as a portrait painter and worked for Margrave Kasimir (Brandenburg-Kulmbach) in 1527 . With his widow Susanna von Bayern , after her marriage to Ottheinrich , he went to the court of Neuburg an der Donau , where he worked as maister Peter, Hofmaller .
His signature was his monogram pg on a gardener's spade, which is why he is sometimes referred to as "Master PG".
