Peter Gillo (born June 28, 1957 in Saarlouis ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Since 2009 he has been director of the Saarbrücken regional association and 1st chairman of the Saarbrücken district association of the German Red Cross . Before that, he was a member of the Saarland State Parliament from 1990 to 2009 .

education and profession

Gillo first attended elementary school in Berus and in 1969 started school at the Stadtgarten in Saarlouis. In 1975 he switched to the college for social affairs in Saarlouis. He then did his community service at the Pedagogical-Social Action Group in Saarbrücken. He graduated from the University of Siegen as a graduate social worker in 1983 . From 2005 to 2009 he completed the "Energy Management" course at the University of Koblenz-Landau while working, which he completed as a "Master of Science".

From 1984 to 1988 Gillo worked in the therapeutic student aid and school social work in Saarbrücken. From 1988 to 1990 he worked for the project Neue Arbeit Saar .

politics

Gillo joined the SPD in 1974. He had been a member of the Saarland Landtag since the tenth legislative period (1990). There he was chairman of the committee for the environment from 2004 to 2009 - as in the years 1998 to 2002. He was also a member of the Committee for Education, Culture and Science until 2009. From 2002 to 2004 he was also deputy chairman of his group.

Peter Gillo has been a member of ÖTV ( ver.di ) since 1979 . In addition, he is u. a. Member of the BUND and the ADFC . He is also a member of the workers' welfare organization and honorary senator of the carnival associations "Daarler Dabbese", "Mir sin do" and "Molschder Narrekäpp" as well as prince of the carnival society "Die Nassauer".

In the Saarland municipal elections in 2009 , Peter Gillo ran for the office of regional association director of the Saarbrücken regional association. In the first ballot, none of the candidates managed to win the absolute majority of votes required. Therefore, on June 21, 2009, there was a runoff between Gillo, who had already been ahead in the first ballot, and Environment Secretary Rainer Grün (CDU). Gillo was able to collect 60.2% of the votes cast and is thus the first elected regional association director.

After the successful election, Gillo left the Saarland state parliament on August 14, 2009.

Personal

Gillo is Roman Catholic, married and has two children.
