Peter Gröbner (biochemist)

Peter Gröbner (born July 21, 1943 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian chemist and biochemist .

Live and act

Peter Gröbner attended elementary school and the Bundesrealgymnasium Innsbruck from 1949 to 1961 . 1961/1962 he did military service in the armed forces . From 1962 he studied chemistry at the University of Innsbruck and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, from 1971 to 1973 at the University of Heidelberg and from 1973 at the Institute for Biochemistry and Experimental Cancer Research at the University of Innsbruck. In 1981 he completed his habilitation in biochemistry. In 1982 he spent several months researching at the Department of Biology at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg , Virginia.

In 1993 Peter Gröbner became a university professor at the Institute for Medicinal Chemistry and Biochemistry, where he headed the Department of Molecular Cell Biology. From 1999 to 2003 he was Vice Rector for Personnel, Personnel and Organizational Development. From 2004 he was director of the section for biological chemistry at the Biozentrum of the newly founded Medical University of Innsbruck . In 2008 he retired .

From 1977 Peter Gröbner was chairman of the university professors' union section of the public service union . From 1976 he was a member of the faculty board of the Medical Faculty, from 1984 to 1997 a representative in the Academic Senate and from 1997 a member of the Senate according to the University Organization Act 1993 . From 2003 to 2008 and from 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the University Council of the University of Innsbruck.
