Peter Heger (born November 15, 1956 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 2017 to February 2020, Heger was a member of the Burgenland State Parliament . From 2007 to 2017 he was also mayor of the market town of Horitschon . Before that, he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 2010 to 2017 from Burgenland .

education and profession

Peter Heger was born on November 15, 1956 in the Lower Austrian town of Wiener Neustadt on the border with Burgenland and attended elementary school and the Bundesrealgymnasium in Oberpullendorf . Subsequently, in 1976, he began a teaching degree for German and journalism at the University of Vienna . On September 1, 1982, he joined the Vienna Chamber of Labor as an educator . From 1984 to 1986 he also completed the external exam for educators at the Institute for Social Education in Vienna.

On March 1, 1989, Peter Heger became assistant to the head of the Floridsdorf branch of the Vienna Chamber of Labor, and on January 1, 1995 head of the Floridsdorf information and advice center in the Chamber of Labor. In 1997 he completed the university course for advertising and sales at the Vienna University of Economics and Business as an academically certified advertising clerk, and in 1999 he also completed a training course in labor and social law at the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labor. Since January 1st, 2008, Peter Heger has been working full-time as an auditor for works council funds in the Vienna Chamber of Labor.

Political career

Politically, Peter Heger has been a functionary in the Social Democratic Party of Austria since April 5, 2001 . On this date he was elected local party chairman of the SPÖ Horitschon . He is a member of the district party control and the district party presidium of the SPÖ in the Oberpullendorf district as well as chairman of the state party control and member of the state party board of the SPÖ in Burgenland. From October 15, 2007 to October 10, 2017, Heger was also mayor of his home town of Horitschon.

After the state elections in Burgenland in 2015 , Peter Heger was sent by the newly elected Burgenland state parliament as one of the representatives of Burgenland to the Austrian Federal Council on July 9, 2015 . When Klaudia Friedl moved to the National Council after the National Council election in 2017 , Peter Heger became her successor as a member of the Burgenland State Parliament. After the state elections in 2020 , he left the state parliament.
