Peter Keller (born August 20, 1954 in Wuppertal ; † October 7, 2014 ) was a German sports historian and author.

Career

Keller was born in the Wuppertal district of Ronsdorf and devoted himself as a hammer thrower to athletics at the DT Ronsdorf 1860 (best performance: 43.78 m on July 28, 1974). With an interest in sports throughout his life, he published articles on the history of sports in Wuppertal, in particular on Wuppertaler SV, and as a co-author of a biography of the football player Horst Szymaniak .

Professionally, he initially worked as an administrative clerk , later as a civil servant in the Wuppertal city administration, where he began an administrative career on August 1, 1971. After positions in the housing benefit department of the Office for Building Funding and as deputy head of the vehicle registration office, he moved to the Wuppertal Sports Office in 1992, where he had been deputy head since 1995. From December 2004 until his death due to illness in October 2014, he was in charge of the sports and swimming pool in his hometown of Wuppertal. He earned a good reputation for his commitment to local sports clubs and by running and supporting sporting events. Because of his commitment, the German national team held numerous international U-matches in the Wuppertal stadium at the zoo . The extensive renovation of the swimming opera took place under his direction .

From 1980, Keller , who last lived in the Sudberg district of Cronenberg, acted as deputy chairman of the staff council for the interests of municipal employees. In addition, he was a volunteer for several decades. a. as deputy state chairman, active for the komba union .
