Peter Kneißl

Peter Kneißl (born January 12, 1938 in Bischofteinitz ) is a German ancient historian .

Peter Kneißl studied history, classical philology and archeology at the University of Marburg . He was there in 1968 with a work supervised by Karl Christ on the subject of The Victory Titulature of the Roman Emperors. Doctoral studies on the winning names of the 1st and 2nd centuries . Kneißl also completed his habilitation there in 1977. From 1981 until his retirement in 2003 he was Professor of Ancient History at the University of Oldenburg , successor was Tanja Scheer . His particular research interest is Latin epigraphy .
