Peter Konlechner

Peter Konlechner (born October 23, 1936 in Vienna ; † December 18, 2016 there ) was co-founder and long-time co-director of the Austrian Film Museum .

Live and act

Peter Konlechner graduated from high school in 1955 and studied communications engineering at the Vienna University of Technology .

As a student, he founded the Student Film Club Cinestudio and the film department of the Student Union . In the course of organizing the International Short Film Week in 1962, he met Peter Kubelka .

From 1988 he taught as a lecturer at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at the University of Vienna . He also worked as a film critic.

In 1964 he founded the Filmmuseum with Kubelka, which the two managed together until 2001. From 1988 he used self-programmed software for cataloging and archiving.

He also designed retrospectives for the Viennale and the Wiener Festwochen . Between 1973 and 1977 he was a member of the Ministry's Film Funding Commission. From 1969 to 1985 he was also a consultant for the film department of the ORF . In 1980 he was also a member of the jury for the award of the Great Austrian State Prize for Film Art.

Konlechner died on December 18, 2016 with his family.
