Peter Kopacek

Peter Kopacek (born October 31, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian mechanical engineer. He is a professor emeritus at the Vienna University of Technology . He became known to a wider public for his success in robot soccer . He and his team were able to win several world and European championship titles.

Life

After graduating from the HTL , Kopacek studied mechanical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology (focus on control engineering ). After completing his doctorate , he initially remained a lecturer at the TU. In 1986 he was appointed professor for system technology and automation in Linz at the Johannes Kepler University . Four years later, in 1990, he followed a call back to the Vienna University of Technology, where he headed the Institute for Handling Devices and Robot Technology . From 1989 to 1995 he was scientific director of the Lower Austrian State Academy and head of the system technology department at this institution. He is currently Secretary General of the IFAC Advisory Board Austria and ÖGART (Austrian Society for Automation and Robot Technology), Austrian representative in IFAC, IFR and IARP, program director of the Engineering Management Program at Vienna University of Technology and rector of a private university. At the end of September 2008 he retired .

At the end of June 2009 Kopacek presented the concept of an affordable, human-like robot, which was introduced as "Archie, the robot with Viennese roots".

Kopacek is the author and co-author of 6 books and over 350 scientific publications.
