Peter Kraus (born June 27, 1941 in Rüsselsheim ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic champion.

Peter Kraus started playing hockey at Rüsselsheimer RK in 1959 . Soon Kraus was the first team goalkeeper. In 1968, 1971, 1975, 1977 and 1978 he was German field hockey champion, in 1976 he won the indoor hockey title.

Kraus made his debut in 1969 at a tournament in Pakistan in the German national hockey team . In 1970 Kraus was part of the squad that was victorious at the first European championship. At the first field hockey world championship , which took place in Pakistan in 1971, Kraus finished fifth with the German championship. Peter Kraus usually sat on the bench when Wolfgang Rott was in goal. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Peter Kraus was a regular player and was also on the field in the final against Pakistan when the German team became Olympic champion with a goal from Michael Krause .

After the Summer Olympics, Peter Kraus' international career ended after 26 internationals. The trained automotive upholsterer worked at Opel until 2001 . Peter Kraus is married to Ursula, a former hockey player, and they have two sons.
