Peter Martin Foster

Peter Martin Foster , CMG (* May 24, 1924 ; † 2004 ) was a British diplomat who was permanent representative to the Council of Europe between 1974 and 1978 and ambassador to the German Democratic Republic from 1978 to 1981 .

Life

Peter Martin Foster, son of Frederick Arthur Pearce Foster, a sea captain of the Royal Navy and Marjorie Kathleen Sandford, found after joining the diplomatic service uses in numerous missions abroad as well as at the State Department ( Foreign Office ) . Between 1966 and 1968 he served as Deputy High Commissioner in Uganda and from 1969 to 1972 Counselor and Chancellor at the Embassy in Israel . On his return he moved to the Ministry of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs ( Foreign and Commonwealth Office ) and was head of the Central and South Africa Department from 1972 to 1974 .

Then Foster was from 1974 to 1978 permanent representative at the Council of Europe. 1975 he was for his services Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG). Most recently, in 1978, he replaced Percy Cradock as ambassador to the German Democratic Republic and remained in his post until 1981, when Peter Maxey succeeded him there.

His marriage to Angela Hope Cross in 1947 had a son.
