Peter Maunu

Peter Maunu (* 1953 ) is an American fusion musician ( guitar , synthesizer , also violin , mandolin ).

Maunu began a career as a classical violinist after receiving a scholarship from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a teenager. Under the influence of the music of Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles (“ Tomorrow Never Knows ”. 1966) he dealt with the tonal forms of expression of the electric guitar. From the mid-1970s he worked in the bands and studio orchestras of Claus Ogerman ( Gate of Dreams ; 1976), Billy Cobham ( Magic , 1977), Jean-Luc Ponty ( Cosmic Messenger , 1978), Bobby McFerrin (1982) and in the fusion band The LA Express , in the following years with Michael Wolff , The Commodores and The Pointer Sisters . With Mark Isham , Terry Bozzio , Peter Wolf and Patrick O'Hearn Maunu formed the formation Group 87 in 1984 , with which (after the debut album in 1980) the album A Career in Dada Processing was created. Under his own name he presented the production Warm Sound in a Gray Field (Narada). In the field of jazz / fusion he was involved in 22 recording sessions between 1976 and 1998. From the mid-1980s onwards, he mainly worked as a session musician for film scores. a. with Mark Isham.
