Peter Michael Grosz

Peter Michael Grosz (born May 22, 1926 in Berlin , † September 29, 2006 in Princeton ) was an American physicist and aviation historian .

Peter Grosz came from a musical family (his father was the painter George Grosz and his younger brother is the American musician Marty Grosz ) and spent his childhood in Berlin until 1933. In October 1933 he followed his father to the USA. He studied physics at Harvard , where he graduated in 1950. In 1952 he moved with his wife Lilian to Princeton, New Jersey , where he worked in various research laboratories. His two children died before him.

Peter Grosz wrote three books and more than 220 articles and monographs on the development of aviation up to the end of the First World War . He was an active member of several historical associations and a valued advisor to leading aviation museums. He supported the development of the aviation department of the German Museum of Technology in Berlin from the start with his knowledge and connections. In 2004 he received the Great Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in recognition of his significant donation and his work . In 2007 his wife Lilian handed over his estate - the largest private collection of archival materials on the history of German aviation technology from 1909 to 1918 - to the German Museum of Technology in Berlin.
